Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 4, 2025

1. Introduction

Thank you for using UrlInsight ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our Chrome extension available on the Chrome Web Store. By installing or using the Extension, you agree to this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.a Data processed by the Extension

  • Page URLs being scanned or analyzed (processed locally in your browser)
  • HTTP status codes, redirect chains, and metadata for link checking
  • Basic usage metrics (e.g., number of scans, scan duration) to improve performance

We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, or full browsing history.

2.b Analytics & diagnostics (optional)

We may use privacy-friendly analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics with IP anonymization or an equivalent) to measure feature usage and diagnose errors. Data is collected in aggregate and not used to identify you.

3. How We Use Information

  • Provide core functionality (e.g., link checking and redirect analysis)
  • Improve performance, reliability, and user experience
  • Detect, prevent, and fix technical issues

We do not:

  • Sell or transfer user data to third parties, outside approved use cases
  • Use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose
  • Use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes

4. Data Storage & Processing

Scanning and analysis happen locally in your browser whenever possible. If you choose an optional cloud feature (e.g., exporting a report or syncing settings), only the minimum necessary data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored temporarily to provide that feature.

5. Permissions & Justifications

  • activeTab — analyze the content of the current tab when you invoke the extension
  • storage — save extension preferences locally
  • webRequest — collect and analyze network requests to detect broken or redirected links
  • webNavigation — monitor tab navigation to detect when a page is fully loaded before scanning
  • host_permissions — access the pages you choose to scan so the extension can read URLs and link elements directly from the site

Permissions are requested only to enable the extension's single purpose — analyzing and reporting URL health — and are never used to access unrelated content, personal data, or private user information.

6. Third-Party Services

If we integrate services such as Google Analytics, they handle data in accordance with their own privacy policies. We share only what is necessary to provide the selected feature.

7. Your Choices

  • Uninstall the extension at any time from your browser
  • Clear locally stored data via your browser's settings
  • Opt out of analytics within the extension (if available)

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect data processed by the extension. However, no system is entirely secure.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be communicated on our website or Chrome Web Store page.
